Since we restructured the blog a bit we will post Card Crawl related news in it’s own category. We want to talk about our plans for Card Crawl which includes it’s 2nd content Update coming at the end of this year.
Since Card Crawl’s heart are it’s ability cards we want to bring a few more to the game. Based on the ideas that were submitted for the contest we still have plenty of interesting designs sitting in our backlog. Obviously not all of the submitted ideas
are fitting for the style and constraints of the game, but we can take some of the ideas and combine them with our own designs. When we design new cards we always try to make them as unique as possible in the context of all other cards and also in relation to the mechanics of the game.
Since we already have 30 cards the design space that is available to create fresh ideas gets thinner because the game has a rather tight design in comparison to something like Hearthstone, where a seemingly endless pool of mechanics can be used. Non the less There are a few interesting ideas that touch parts of the game that have not been used yet. One of them would be the Shop-Box where we plan to have some kind of ‘Heist-Card’ that can steal sold items. Another one would be a card that inverts the use of items or monsters. For example a potion could become a weapon, a sword or shield a potion. Something we also think about is using Monsters as your minions to fight other monster. As you can see there are some interesting ideas to mess with still. How many cards we will do is still open, so keep an eye out!
The second and more interesting part of the next content update will be the Dungeon Builder. With the Dungeon Builder we will open up the game to you in order to create more interesting content for everyone. Since we also would love to play different Dungeons this will give us and you a nice way of creating and sharing interesting Dungeon Decks with the community. The Dungeon Builder will allow Decks to have larger starting values than 10 for individual cards. In addition Decks won’t have to have all card types. This means that you can create decks that are only playable with a specific set of ability cards or a Deck in which you can’t heal and so on. Each deck will have it’s own Highscore similar to the Daily Dungeons. We will try to make the UI for the Builder as simple as possible. In order to get it right we will announce another beta for the Dungeon Builder soon.
General Roadmap for Card Crawl
In general we will try to bring the 2nd content update before the Christmas madness starts. We’ve posted about the Android launch and how well it went already. Since then we also released a version on the Amazon Store. We believe that with the update Card Crawl will be in a very solid state. Obviously we could work on Card Crawl another year, but we feel that the game has achieved almost anything we could imagine. A big part of that was to create an awesome community and find a lot of dedicated new players that love the game as much as we do. On this note we want to silently announce that we do have started working on an unofficial Card Crawl successor (no not Alchemist) which is another solitaire style card game, that will carry on the spirit of Card Crawl but will bring some fresh new ideas and a new theme. We hope that the new game will be enjoyed by all players of Card Crawl. We try to finish the main development for Card Crawl this year and start with our new game in the beginning of 2016.
